Solana Beach, meaning
“sunny,” is a city of its own having been incorporated in 1988. It sits along two miles of coastline in
between Del Mar and Encinitas.
Old Solana Beach is separated from the hills that rise to
the east by Interstate 5 and a deep ravine. In 1986 Solana Beach was
incorporated as a city.
Downtown Solana Beach is quaint with shops, galleries,
antiques, restaurants, night clubs, and resorts.
The South Cedros area of
the City has been developed as an upscale design district that attracts
many artisans, decorators and antique dealers.
Just east of the beach
is a golf course and country club and there is a lagoon regional park to
the north.
In addition there are two community centers, Fletcher Cove and La
Colonia.
Solana
Beach real estate features of a number of ocean front condo complexes
west of Highway 101. Older homes and remodels that dot the hillside
overlooking the ocean and newer homes east of the Interstate (5) in an
area known as Lomas Santa Fe.
The
elementary school district is composed two elementary schools within the
actually within the city limits of Solana Beach. The middle & high
schools are under the administration of the San Dieguito Union High
School District. High school students attend Torrey Pines High School in
Carmel Valley.
The
Coast Express Rail Service (Coaster), commuter rail line operates
between Oceanside and Santa Fe Depot.
In 1995
the train station was moved from Del Mar to Solana Beach and also serves
